Naju City Accepts Opinions on 'City Bus Route Reorganization' Until the 13th of Next Month
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 28th that it will accept citizen opinions on the ‘8th Term Elected Mayor’s City Bus Route Reorganization’ through the city hall website from the 29th to the 13th of next month.
Citizen suggestions will be accepted in five categories: ‘Establishment/Change of Bus Routes,’ ‘Adjustment of Operating Hours,’ ‘Installation and Relocation of Bus Stops,’ ‘Provision of Public Transportation Information,’ and ‘Other Inconveniences.’
Suggestions can be submitted by clicking the popup window on the city hall website’s main page or by accessing ‘Participation Civil Complaints - Citizen Participation - Collection of Citizen Opinions,’ completing real-name authentication, and posting the message.
The received opinions will be actively reflected in the route reorganization process through review and analysis by category.
Since the launch of the 8th Term Elected Mayor, the city has embarked on a large-scale reorganization of city bus routes focusing on improving public transportation convenience and efficiency for citizens.
This is because there have been issues such as excessive payment of subsidies to transportation companies due to inefficient bus route operations, as well as passenger complaints about public transportation services including unfriendliness, reckless driving, and failure to stop at bus stops.
The route reorganization plan broadly consists of ‘Establishing a route system connecting city buses with village buses/village taxis,’ ‘Route optimization reflecting transportation demand,’ ‘Expansion of village taxis,’ ‘Maintenance of trunk (Gwangju) routes,’ and ‘Introduction of express buses.’
For city bus routes in remote and isolated villages with high bus vacancy rates, the number of trips will be increased only up to the town and township centers from Naju and Yeongsanpo, reflecting transportation demand.
Instead, a ‘circular small village bus’ will be introduced on routes from town and township centers to natural villages to establish an efficient route system.
For remote and isolated villages with low bus usage, alternative transportation means such as ‘village taxis’ will be expanded and distributed to assist residents’ mobility.
Express buses, a linear operation system, will be newly established at major hubs with high public transportation demand such as Innovation City, Naju Station, and the old downtown area.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “We will actively collect and review diverse opinions from citizens of all walks of life regarding the city bus route reorganization and reflect them in the 8th Term Elected Mayor’s route reorganization and policy formulation process. Along with the Naju City Public Transportation Innovation Citizens’ Committee, we ask for many suggestions so that a citizen-led route reorganization can be realized.”
