CJ CheilJedang's Plantable Sells 3 Million Units in 10 Months... "Expanding K-Food Territory"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang's plant-based food specialty brand ‘PlanTable’ is capturing the taste buds of domestic and international consumers amid the expanding health and eco-friendly trends.
CJ CheilJedang announced on the 28th that PlanTable products have achieved cumulative sales of approximately 3 million units within 10 months of launch. The average monthly sales growth rate reaches 20%. In particular, the number of export countries has increased from 10 at the initial launch to 30 countries including Germany, the UK, Europe, India, and Africa, and the product lineup has also expanded. Additionally, it has obtained the European vegan certification ‘V Label’.
PlanTable products are creating a new market domestically. According to an analysis of purchase data from CJ CheilJedang’s official mall CJ The Market, over 80% of PlanTable dumpling buyers also purchased meat dumplings from December last year to October this year. The company explains that PlanTable dumplings are not substitutes for existing dumplings but are creating new demand, establishing themselves as a distinct category and leading changes in market trends.
Furthermore, among PlanTable product buyers, women and those in their 30s to 40s account for 70% each, with the proportion of buyers in their 30s continuing to increase. In the business-to-business (B2B) market, awareness of menus using PlanTable is rising, and collaborations with catering companies and others are expanding.
The company analyzes that the popularity of PlanTable products is supported by CJ CheilJedang’s differentiated research and development (R&D) and manufacturing technology. By utilizing the independently developed plant-based protein ‘TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)’, they have realized the taste of meat and a chewy texture. The unique soybean aroma is controlled with the natural seasoning material ‘Taste Enrich’, which embodies 60 years of R&D expertise. The taste and quality are evaluated to be comparable to products containing meat, to the extent that the difference is hardly noticeable.
