US Walmart Shooting Incident... "Fewer Than 10 Deaths"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] A shooting incident occurred at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA, resulting in fewer than 10 reported deaths so far.
According to major U.S. media outlets including The New York Times (NYT) on the 23rd (local time), a shooting took place the previous day at a large Walmart store in Chesapeake, Virginia, causing multiple casualties.
Local police responded after receiving a report of a shooting inside the Chesapeake Walmart at around 10:12 PM the previous day. Police spokesperson Leo Kosinski stated, "When officers entered the store, they found several victims."
He added, "Initial confirmation estimates fewer than 10 fatalities," but explained, "There may be additional victims or people hiding, so we are searching." Among the injured, five are receiving treatment at Norfolk General Hospital.
The police did not provide detailed information about the suspect. It is understood that the suspect was already deceased at the scene when police arrived.
Police spokesperson Kosinski said, "The police do not know whether the shooter was employed by Walmart," and it is unclear whether the shooter died by self-inflicted injury. However, he added that no shots were fired by the officers.
