Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group Launches 'Happiness-Delivering Moving Helpers' Activities
Founded in 2012 for the Prosperous Lives of Neighbors
Active Volunteering Through Communication Beyond Passive Service
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group (Leader Yoo In-seop) engaged in moving assistance activities for elderly living alone in Gwangyeong-dong, Gwangyang City on the 22nd.
The Love Sharing Volunteer Group, consisting of 66 employees of Gwangyang Steelworks and 89 family members of employees, was established in 2012 to support neighbors in need so they can live a prosperous life.
They carry out activities such as preparing food, supporting meals, and delivering lunch boxes every day at 7 a.m. at a free meal center located in Gwangyang-eup to prevent malnutrition among local elderly.
This moving assistance activity was carried out after receiving a call from the Gwangyeong-dong office that an elderly person living alone in Gwangyeong-dong was unable to move due to lack of manpower, and the volunteers wanted to be the helping hands for the elderly.
Volunteers who arrived at the elderly person's home carried and moved large and heavy moving items such as clothes, furniture, refrigerator, and washing machine that had been used for a long time, sweating to prepare a happy new home for the elderly to move into.
Also, they did not forget to clean up thoroughly, removing dust left in the places where furniture had been and stains caused during the moving process, to tidy up after carrying the moving items and leaving.
In particular, this moving assistance activity for the elderly living alone is meaningful in that it is an active volunteer service conducted through communication with the beneficiary, beyond passive volunteering where the volunteer group selectively chooses beneficiaries.
The elderly person who received the assistance said, “Because of my age, I was having difficulty packing and carrying heavy moving items, but the Love Sharing Volunteer Group solved this for me,” and added, “I am grateful to the volunteer members who willingly stepped forward even with a sudden request.”
Gwangyang Steelworks was recognized for its contribution to the development of senior job projects for the elderly in the region and received the ‘Jeonnam Governor’s Commendation.’ It is actively working to solve community difficulties such as △ Connecting Hearts for Elderly Living Alone △ Preparing Birthday Meals △ Supporting Wallpapering for Homes of Elderly Living Alone.
