On the 23rd, Park Won-cheol, CEO of SKC, said at the 'SKC Tech Day 2022' held at Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul, "We will provide optimal products and solutions to our customers through global expansion and super-gap technological superiority in the fields of secondary batteries, semiconductors, and eco-friendly materials."
At this event, which disclosed future business technologies to analysts and institutional investors, SKC shared the process of innovating business models by combining its existing technologies with related technologies secured through mergers and acquisitions, research and development, and collaboration, as well as plans for future expansion.
The technologies introduced on this day include ▲secondary batteries (copper foil, silicon anode materials) ▲semiconductors (glass substrates, CMP pads, blank masks) ▲eco-friendly materials (PBAT, PG, polyurethane).
In the secondary battery materials sector, plans to strengthen the technological capabilities of copper foil and silicon anode materials were revealed. SK Nexilis is pursuing a plan to maintain a super-gap in copper foil manufacturing technology by being the first in the global copper foil industry to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to tailor physical properties to customer demand. Additionally, it has secured nickel foil mass production technology to respond to the spread of all-solid-state batteries.
Furthermore, SKC plans to begin construction next year of production facilities for silicon anode materials, considered a core material for secondary batteries, and start full-scale commercialization. Through investment in the UK technology company Nexeon, SKC secured exclusive business rights to new technology that combines the advantages of various manufacturing methods, significantly reducing process difficulty and cost, thereby securing market competitiveness.
In the semiconductor materials sector, the technology roadmap for glass substrates, CMP pads, and blank masks was introduced, while in the eco-friendly materials sector, technologies that enhance the eco-friendly features of existing businesses were disclosed.
