Analysis of Domestic and International Large Water Main Leak Cases and Causes... Presentations on 5 Topics Including Latest Leak Detection Technologies
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it will hold the ‘2022 Seoul Water Symposium’ to discuss measures to proactively prevent and respond to ‘large water main leaks’ that cause significant inconvenience to citizens, such as large-scale water outages during accidents. The symposium is a water supply technology seminar hosted by the Seoul Water Institute.
This symposium, under the theme ‘Current Status and Challenges of Responding to Large Water Main Leaks,’ will be held on the 24th at the Korea Science and Technology Center, Basement 1, Medium Conference Room, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Through a total of five presentations, cases of large water main leak accidents both domestically and internationally will be introduced, followed by in-depth discussions on the causes and responses for each case.
Additionally, the latest domestic and international technology trends for detecting leaks in water mains will be reviewed to proactively prevent leaks. The presentations will be delivered by Professor Yoo Doo-geun of Suwon University, Director Han Young-cheon of Seoyong Engineering, Professor Kim Doo-il of Dankook University, Senior Researcher Kim Kyung-pil of K-Water, and Researcher Han Geum-seok of the Seoul Water Institute.
After the presentations, Professor Hyun In-hwan of Dankook University will serve as the chair and lead an in-depth discussion and Q&A session on ‘Proactive Measures for Large Water Main Leak Response.’ Participants in the discussion include CEO Kim Jin-won of Water Resources Technology, Director Choi Tae-yong of Hanil Network Engineering, Leak Response Manager Kim Geun-yong of the Seoul Waterworks Headquarters, and Head of the Water Research Department An Jae-chan of the Seoul Water Institute.

Son Jeong-su, Director of the Seoul Water Institute, said, “We will develop and apply the discussions from this symposium to the field to supply safe tap water without inconvenience,” adding, “We hope this will serve as a foundation to thoroughly prevent large water main leaks, which directly cause inconvenience to citizens, and to respond proactively.”
