View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) has been selected for the 'U-Library System Construction Support Project' organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for three consecutive years.
The U-Library System is a lifestyle-oriented unmanned library that allows users to freely borrow books placed in smart library devices without visiting the library. The project is being promoted with a total budget of 120 million KRW (60 million KRW from the national government, 30 million KRW from the city government, etc.).
Through the selection of the public contest project, Gijang-gun opened and operates the first branch on the 2nd floor of Megamart Gijang Branch in August 2021 and the second branch at Donghae Line Wolnae Station in July 2022.
With this selection, Gijang-gun plans to establish the third branch on the first floor of the Gijang-gun Office building in the first half of next year, placing about 600 new books and bestsellers, and providing library and various county administration news through a screen.
Citizens who wish to use the service must obtain a Busan City Public Library integrated membership card (including the Chaegieum membership card). It is also available via a mobile membership card.
Books can be borrowed up to two per person for 14 days, and books borrowed from the smart library must be returned only at the smart library.

A Gijang-gun official said, “We are now able to provide convenient library services to residents visiting the Gijang-gun Office,” and added, “Going forward, Gijang-gun will continue to strive to ensure that many residents can use this lifestyle-oriented small library.”
