Gangjin-gun Selected for 7 Public Projects to Expand Renewable Energy Infrastructure
Promotion of Installation Projects for Self-Consumption Solar Power Facilities in Public Institutions
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do secured the largest national subsidy of 189 million KRW in Jeollanam-do by having seven projects selected in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 2023 Renewable Energy Expansion Infrastructure Project competition.
The Renewable Energy Expansion Infrastructure Project is a program where the government subsidizes part of the installation costs when renewable energy such as solar power or solar heat is installed in public or social welfare facilities owned by the county. The Korea Energy Agency accepted applications from 17 cities and provinces nationwide for two months until June, conducted a public evaluation, and selected a total of 222 projects. Among them, 22 projects were selected in Jeollanam-do.
The 2023 project sites include seven locations such as the Gangjin-gun Senior Nursing Home and Gangjin-gun Senior Welfare Center, where a 205 kW scale self-consumption solar power generation facility is planned to be installed.
Through this project, by installing self-consumption solar power generation facilities on buildings, it is expected not only to reduce electricity bills but also to change the negative perception of solar power facilities among residents and contribute to reducing greenhouse gases, which is a global issue.
Gangjin-gun Mayor Gang Jin-won said, "The transition from fossil energy to renewable energy is an unstoppable trend of the times," adding, "Our county will also continue to supply renewable energy to major public facilities and multi-use facilities to create an eco-friendly energy self-reliant city and improve the energy supply system."
Meanwhile, through the 2022 Renewable Energy Expansion Infrastructure Project, Gangjin-gun installed self-consumption solar power generation facilities of 90 kW at the health center, 50 kW at the Gangjin-gun Table Tennis Exclusive Stadium, and 48 kW at the Chillyang Industrial Complex.
