[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Kumho Petrochemical announced on the 22nd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the pyrolysis of waste polystyrene and recycled styrene business with Technip Energies, an engineering services specialist company.

Kumho Petrochemical announced the promotion of the recycled styrene business in August last year and plans to introduce waste polystyrene pyrolysis technology and start construction of a plant in the future. Commercialization of the product will also begin in 2026.
Technip Energies is a company that holds the technology license of Agilyx, which possesses the original technology for waste polystyrene pyrolysis, and has decided to actively support all related tasks including license transfer to Kumho Petrochemical.

A Kumho Petrochemical official explained, "We are also preparing to commercialize the 'Eco-SSBR' business, which applies recycled styrene to the high-performance synthetic rubber product 'SSBR.' Since recycled raw materials are used instead of basic raw material styrene, it has recently attracted attention as an eco-friendly tire material from domestic and overseas tire companies."
