Geochang-gun, Prepares 770 Billion Won Budget Proposal for Next Year
Focus on Key Projects, Regional Economic Recovery, and Social Safety Net Establishment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has prepared a budget of 770 billion KRW for next year and submitted it to the Geochang County Council on the 21st.
This is an increase of 68.1 billion KRW (9.7%) compared to this year, marking the largest budget ever prepared. Of this, the general account increased by 56.5 billion KRW (8.8%) to 694 billion KRW, and the special account increased by 11.6 billion KRW (18%) to 76 billion KRW.
The county stated that in a situation where inflationary pressures are expanding and economic growth rates are expected to decline, next year’s budget was prepared focusing on essential tasks such as responding to population extinction and preventing major disasters, as well as key projects and pledge projects of the 8th local government administration for efficient financial management through selection and concentration.
Major projects by sector include the agriculture and forestry sector with a total of 139.4 billion KRW allocated, including ▲48 billion KRW for farmer subsidies ▲37 billion KRW for Dongsan Village rural space maintenance project ▲12 billion KRW for Handul District pumping station and water supply pipeline maintenance project ▲7 billion KRW for construction of dormitories for foreign rural workers.
For transportation and regional development to build local infrastructure, a total of 88.2 billion KRW was allocated, including ▲5 billion KRW for the opening of the Geoyeol Fortress access road ▲4.6 billion KRW for expansion and paving of rural roads ▲4 billion KRW for Sangdong urban regeneration recognition project ▲3.2 billion KRW for Gamaksan eco-friendly energy tourism site linkage facility construction project ▲2 billion KRW for purchase of electric low-floor public buses.
In the culture and tourism sector, a total of 29.1 billion KRW was allocated, including ▲2.6 billion KRW for expansion of all-weather tennis courts within the Sports Park ▲2.3 billion KRW for Gamaksan barrier-free sharing road construction project ▲2.1 billion KRW for Geochang anti-aging healing land trail construction project ▲1.8 billion KRW for the 2nd Sports Town construction project ▲1 billion KRW for installation of night facilities at Gamaksan experience center.
In the health and safety sector, a total of 18.3 billion KRW was allocated, including ▲900 million KRW for maintenance of Gokyeoncheon natural disaster risk improvement district ▲600 million KRW for remodeling of Geochang County Elderly Nursing Hospital ▲500 million KRW for establishment of rural-type memory school utilizing closed schools ▲400 million KRW for major disaster prevention to secure industrial safety and health.
To respond to local extinction, funds were allocated as follows: ▲3 billion KRW for remodeling of old dormitories at Korea Elevator University ▲1.4 billion KRW for Geochang customized youth rental housing support project ▲800 million KRW for establishment of comprehensive welfare system for small and medium enterprise workers ▲600 million KRW for youth marriage congratulatory money and Geochang-type youth allowance payments.
County Governor Goo In-mo said, “Next year’s budget was prepared focusing on stabilizing residents’ lives, recovering the local economy, and building a social safety net amid difficult internal and external conditions. By reflecting the key projects of the 8th local government administration, we will strive to create a future city where everyone wants to live and to achieve a greater leap forward for Geochang.”

The submitted 2023 budget will be reviewed at the 267th regular session of the Geochang County Council starting December 5 and is expected to be finalized in late December.
