Declaration of Globalization of Goheung Agricultural Products Fueled by Hallyu Popularity
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 18th that it declared the 'Globalization of Goheung Cuisine' at the 'Korea Gimbap Forum' held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Seoul.
This forum event was organized to establish Korean gimbap as a new brand product in the global Hallyu K-food market and to discuss policies and development directions for the globalization of gimbap.
The event saw the participation of numerous officials from the government, local governments, and related organizations, including the host, Assemblyman Hong Moon-pyo, Joo Ho-young, Floor Leader of the People Power Party, Song Eon-seok, Deputy Floor Leader of the People Power Party, Kim Seung-nam of the Democratic Party, Choi Seung-jae of the People Power Party, Lim Joon-taek, Chairman of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, and Lim Kyung-sook, Chairperson of the Korean Food Promotion Institute.
Governor Gong Young-min stated, "Goheung seafood is exported worldwide with excellent quality, and among them, Goheung gim (seaweed) has played a leading role in the global K-food market." He added, "Gimbap is a complete food that can transform infinitely depending on the filling ingredients, and Goheung-gun will take the lead to globalize gimbap."
Furthermore, through the 'Declaration of Globalization of Goheung Cuisine,' Governor Gong Young-min presented the direction for overseas marketing of Goheung agricultural and marine products, saying, "We will grow Goheung gim and yuzu into global brands and fully support the globalization policy of Korean gimbap based on Goheung gim for the globalization of Goheung cuisine. Together with the Korea Gimbap Forum, we will proactively lead and create a model case for a global food culture platform."
A Goheung-gun official said, "Goheung is a major global production area for yuzu (26%) and gim (11%), and we will do our best to brand Goheung yuzu and Goheung gim, which are key export products of Korean agricultural and marine products."
Meanwhile, following the export agreement worth 5.3 million USD signed in September for the European food ingredient market and the establishment of a cooperative system with the global distribution company Itochu to expand exports of Goheung yuzu and gim, in November, Goheung-gun invited local European buyers to Goheung-gun to hold a workshop for exporting Goheung yuzu and gim. They also actively promoted the globalization of Goheung cuisine by directly showing processing sites such as yuzu tea and gim.
