Professor Jeong Wonkyo of Pukyong National University Elected as Regular Member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology

[Asia Economy Yeongnam News Bureau, Hwang Dooyeol] Professor Jeong Wonkyo of Pukyong National University has been elected as a regular member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology for 2023.

Professor Jeong was selected as a regular member of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries among the 28 regular members announced by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology at its recent "2nd Regular General Meeting of 2022."

The Korean Academy of Science and Technology selects as regular members those who have worked in the field of science and technology for more than 20 years, have achieved leading research results, and have made significant contributions to the advancement of their respective fields.

Professor Jeong is recognized as a leading researcher in the convergence fields of marine, bio, and medical sciences, conducting studies in biochemistry, biomaterials, and marine natural product chemistry. He is known for his work in developing pharmaceuticals, bioactive materials, and advanced medical materials utilizing marine organisms.

Since joining Pukyong National University in 2013, Professor Jeong has been serving as the director of the Marine Bionics Convergence Technology Center, a university-focused research institute, where he leads advanced marine bio and biomedical technologies.

For 2023, a total of 28 professors from Pukyong National University, including Professor Jeong, have been elected as regular members of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. This includes one from the Department of Policy Studies, nine from the Department of Science, nine from the Department of Engineering, five from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and four from the Department of Medicine.
