According to a compilation of our coverage, the Special Investigation Unit will summon Mayor Park, who has been booked on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and injury, for questioning on the morning of the day. Mayor Park has come under investigation for allegedly neglecting to prepare safety accident prevention measures in the Itaewon area during the Halloween period and for inadequately responding to the disaster. On the same day in the afternoon, the Special Investigation Unit will summon Chief Inspector Ryu Mi-jin, who was the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Situation Manager on the day of the disaster, for questioning. Chief Inspector Ryu is accused of dereliction of duty for leaving his assigned post at the Seoul Police 112 Integrated Situation Room on the day of the disaster and failing to promptly report the incident to the Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. It is known that through prior witness interviews, the Special Investigation Unit has judged that Ryu’s delayed report was not the direct cause of the large-scale casualties due to disruption of rescue operations.
