Comprehensive Survey After Landmine Explosion at Yanggu Security Exhibition Hall
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] It has been revealed that over 2,000 rounds of ammunition were displayed in national security exhibition halls without undergoing deactivation procedures. As a result, on the 31st of last month, two soldiers were injured when an explosive, presumed to be an M14 anti-personnel mine, detonated while troops were transporting exhibits inside a security exhibition hall at a unit in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon Province.
On the 17th, Army Public Affairs Officer Kim Jin-tae stated at a regular briefing, "We conducted a full inspection of about 130 security exhibition halls and history museums managed by both the military and civilians, and collected and disposed of all ammunition except for dummy rounds and deactivated rounds."
The amount of ammunition collected and disposed of has reached over 2,000 rounds to date. According to military authorities, most of the recovered ammunition consists of small-caliber rounds with a small diameter.

Following the explosion accident at the Army unit, the military investigated the exhibits in the security exhibition halls and confirmed that some anti-personnel mines and high-explosive bombs had not completed the deactivation process. Additionally, the Army Military Police, together with civilian police, are investigating the detailed circumstances of the explosion and how explosives were displayed without undergoing deactivation procedures.
