This drill assumed a scenario where a fire broke out in the power distribution section of a major communication station providing nationwide communication services, causing large-scale wired and wireless network outages in the surrounding area. It was conducted to comprehensively inspect crisis response and emergency recovery systems such as urgent restoration of communication services.
During the emergency communication service recovery drill, measures to respond to local wireless network outages such as deployment of mobile base stations and disaster roaming were checked, along with newly introduced disaster WiFi opening (Public WiFi Emergency), support for small business owners' smartphone tethering payments, and other efforts to enhance communication service resilience and protect subscribers in affected areas during disaster situations.
Additionally, the drill showcased digital safety technologies incorporating digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), developed by LGU+ and introduced on-site to improve the stability of communication stations.
Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT stated in the drill review, "In a digital-based society, securing organic stability from networks (N/W), data centers (IDC), to major digital services is crucial," adding, "We plan to reexamine disaster response systems for core infrastructure and digital services from the ground up and establish a comprehensive digital crisis management system." He further urged telecom company officials, "Do not view strengthening the stability of digital infrastructure simply as a cost but as an investment for the future, and strive to ensure network stability."
