Government to Sell Idle State-Owned Properties to Local Governments... Nationwide Demand Survey Conducted
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] The government plans to actively sell idle and underutilized state-owned properties when local governments need them. To this end, it will conduct demand surveys by visiting local governments nationwide and prepare support measures for local governments lacking funds for purchases.
On the 16th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance held the first meeting of the "Visiting State-Owned Property Briefing Session" chaired by Second Vice Minister Choi Sang-dae at Narakeum Yeouido in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss these matters. The meeting was attended by seven local government officials, including Kim Byung-gyu, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongnam, Lee Jong-hwa, Deputy Mayor for Economy of Daegu, Koo Man-seop, Deputy Governor of Jeju, Kang Seung-gu, Chief of Planning and Coordination Office of Jeonbuk, Hong Ji-seon, Director of Urban Housing Office of Gyeonggi, Song Kyung-joo, Chief of Planning and Coordination Office of Busan, and Seo Nam-gyo, Chief of Planning and Coordination Office of Ulsan.
Vice Minister Choi said, "If state-owned properties are needed for local governments' public interest projects, we will actively support prompt sales," adding, "If local governments lack the funds to purchase state-owned properties, we plan to alleviate the burden by exchanging them with public properties owned by the respective local governments."
As a result of the government's demand survey on state-owned property purchases targeting local governments, a total of 71 cases amounting to 316.3 billion won were surveyed. Local governments plan to utilize the purchased idle state-owned properties for various public interest projects such as parking lots, roads, and government office buildings.
To this end, "Visiting State-Owned Property Briefing Sessions" by region will be held for each local government by the end of this year.

Vice Minister Choi emphasized "the importance of policy directions where the nation and local governments can develop together through active development of state-owned properties," and added, "We will also actively promote ways for the state and local governments to jointly develop and utilize state-owned properties to achieve mutual growth."
