The competition was held to discover excellent research achievements of domestic and international personnel related to the domestic aircraft maintenance industry (MRO) growth, to expand aircraft certification, and to improve aviation safety.
Park Joon-yi, a third-year student in the Department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Silla University, and his advisor Professor Kim Myung-jun participated in the student division with the theme “Research on a Wireless Communication-Based Tool Management System for Preventing FOD Occurrence,” winning the highest award of the competition, the Grand Prize, along with a prize of 2 million KRW.
Student Park analyzed domestic and international regulations for preventing FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) occurrence and proposed a wireless communication technology-based tool management system that can prevent aircraft accidents based on this analysis.
He received high evaluations for his detailed analysis of aircraft certification regulations, raising issues in domestic regulations, and presenting a creative system to overcome these problems.
Professor Kim Myung-jun of the Department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering said, “Our department is cultivating aircraft maintenance engineers equipped with engineering capabilities based on a differentiated curriculum. As a result, students seem to be achieving good results in academic conference paper presentations and various competitions based on their innovative ideas.”
Professor Kim added, “We will do our best to support students so that they can fully demonstrate their capabilities not only in classes but also in various external activities.”
