Korea Railroad Invites Name Suggestions for New ‘ITX Train’
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) is holding a naming contest for its new distributed power train with a speed of 150 km/h.
According to KORAIL on the 16th, the name of this train will be established focusing on ITX (Intercity Train Express) trains currently in operation, emphasizing the image of an eco-friendly electric train.
Considering the advantages and features of the new train and the consistency with the ITX class of similar trains, the name will be decided in the format of ‘ITX-OOO’.
For example, the new train name can be submitted in formats such as ITX-Woori, ITX-Jaegunho, ITX-Samcheonriho, and there is no limit on the number of characters.
Anyone who is a citizen of the Republic of Korea can participate in the naming contest for the new train. Participation is possible by accessing the contest page on the KORAIL website or official SNS channels and submitting the proposed name along with a brief explanation of its meaning by the 30th of this month.
KORAIL plans to provide an online gifticon worth 50,000 KRW to selected participants through a lottery. More detailed information about the contest can be found on the KORAIL website.
Previously, KORAIL also decided the names of trains such as KTX-Sancheon, ITX-Cheongchun, ITX-Saemaeul, and KTX-Eum, which were domestically developed and started operation in 2010, through public naming contests.
Meanwhile, the exterior of the new train inherits the design of the currently operating ITX-Saemaeul, featuring a streamlined shape that absorbs resistance at a maximum speed of 150 km/h.
It is also designed to expand seat space and incorporate convenience features such as power outlets and USB charging ports.
In particular, KORAIL explains that by adopting the ‘distributed power (EMU)’ system, like the next-generation high-speed train KTX-Eum, the train has excellent acceleration and deceleration capabilities optimized for Korea’s terrain.
The introduction of the new train is scheduled to begin in February next year.
