All Community Sports Centers in Mapo-gu Open 365 Days a Year
[Seoul District News] Mapo-gu Plans Year-Round Opening of Sports Spaces in 16 Dong Community Centers and 5 Public Gymnasiums & Free Weekend and Holiday Use of Dong Sports Facilities for Groups Until December 16 & Public Gymnasium Closed Days Changed to 'Free Use Days' Allowing Gym Use Without Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will open the community center sports halls and district-run gymnasiums 365 days a year.
To this end, the district is improving the operation methods of the sports spaces in 16 community centers and 5 district-run gymnasiums, and it is expected that these facilities will be open year-round starting early next year.
Currently, community sports programs are held in all neighborhoods, but operating hours have been from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. As a result, residents who wanted to use the facilities at night or on weekends faced difficulties participating.
Accordingly, the district has decided to provide the sports spaces in community centers free of charge to organizations (institutions) wishing to use them on weekends and public holidays, and will recruit interested organizations on a first-come, first-served basis until December 16. Organizations wishing to use the facilities can contact the Mapo-gu Sports Promotion Division.
District-run gymnasiums will no longer have closing days. Until now, the gymnasiums were closed on certain days, but these days will be changed to "free use days" and operated accordingly.
On regular operating days, sports facilities and training programs will continue as before, and on free use days, although there will be no training or guidance, anyone can purchase a one-day pass on-site to use the facilities, allowing residents to access the gymnasium freely.
The district-run gymnasiums to be open year-round include five local gymnasiums, such as the Mapo-gu Citizens Sports Center, Yeomni Community Sports Hall, Seongmisan Sports Hall, Mangwon Nadeulmok Sports Hall, and Wausan Badminton Court.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Due to COVID-19, the period during which sports facilities were closed or not operated was long, but starting early next year, all community sports halls in the district will be open year-round without closing days. Through this, we expect to increase opportunities for residents’ sports and leisure activities, activate community sports, and contribute to improving residents’ physical fitness.”
