About 300 people, including Hong Nam-pyo, mayor of Changwon Special City, National Assembly member Kim Young-sun, city and provincial council members, and local residents, attended the opening ceremony. The event proceeded in the order of a congratulatory performance by the Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital Orchestra, progress report, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, plaque unveiling, and a tour of the government building.
In particular, at this event, the vision of Uichang-gu, called ‘Satongpaldal Uichang,’ meaning “connected in all directions and reaching everywhere” for the new future of the new government building era, was declared, pledging to provide innovative administrative services for residents and to promote open administration that communicates with local people.
Uichang-gu, established with the launch of the integrated Changwon City in 2010, had been sharing the Myeonggok-dong Administrative Welfare Center and government building. To actively respond to the increasing population and diversifying administrative demands, construction of the new government building began in April 2020 with a total project cost of 34.8 billion KRW and was completed last September.
The new government building has a total floor area of 13,315㎡, with 2 basement floors and 4 above-ground floors, and started operations on the 24th of last month. All departments of the district office, which had been operated separately in the main and annex buildings due to limited space, are now together, providing one-stop administrative services to visitors, earning favorable reviews from residents.
In addition to its primary administrative functions, the building is expected to serve as an open government building and a complex cultural space by offering residents opportunities to enjoy culture and rest through cultural performances and exhibitions.
