[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has launched an investigation into the manual shutdown incident of a research reactor.
On the 15th at 10:44 a.m., the NSSC announced that the research reactor "Hanaro," located in Daejeon, Chungnam, was manually shut down. The NSSC dispatched an incident investigation team to the site to determine the detailed cause.
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute reported to the NSSC that the cooling water temperature of the cold neutron source experimental facility abnormally increased, leading to the manual shutdown of Hanaro. The cold neutron source experimental facility is a system that uses liquid hydrogen to moderate neutrons generated by the reactor for research purposes.
