[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 14th that it has been selected as the best county for four consecutive years in the 'Jeollanam-do Comprehensive Agricultural Administration Evaluation' in recognition of its differentiated policy promotion to increase farmers' income and improve their quality of life through creating high added value in agriculture.
This award was given in recognition of Yeonggwang-gun's efforts to elevate the status of agriculture since the 8th local government administration, receiving the top prize at the '27th Jeollanam-do Farmers' Day Event' held on the 11th at Jangheung-gun Indoor Gymnasium.
The 'Jeollanam-do Comprehensive Agricultural Administration Evaluation' evaluates and awards outstanding agricultural policy implementation among 21 cities and counties in the province. It assesses a total of 41 items across six fields including agricultural and rural revitalization, promotion of eco-friendly agriculture, production of food and horticultural crops, expansion of agricultural product distribution and development of agro-food industry, environmentally friendly livestock promotion, and strengthening animal quarantine and livestock product hygiene.
In this evaluation, the county was recognized for its achievements in fostering high-income farmers, expanding crop disaster insurance enrollment, cultivating new income crops in response to climate change, strengthening agricultural product distribution, eco-friendly livestock policies, and livestock epidemic prevention.
In particular, to foster sustainable agriculture and rural areas, the county continuously promoted policies such as introducing public interest allowances for farmers and fishermen, implementing a monthly salary system for farmers, expanding crop disaster insurance enrollment to respond to climate change, promoting eco-friendly agriculture centered on organic farming, and expanding online sales of agricultural specialties.
The county is linking its outstanding advantages in agricultural production to distribution and agro-food processing sectors to establish a virtuous cycle system for local food. It is building a regional food industry virtuous cycle system by applying the 6th industry on-site, centered on local food direct stores and the barley industry within the county.
County Governor Kang Jongman said, "Achieving excellent results in the provincial agricultural administration evaluation for four consecutive years is the result of the united efforts of related officials, agricultural cooperatives, farmers, and related organizations." He added, "During my term, I will continue to increase the agricultural budget by 10 billion won annually and promote field-tailored agricultural policies by communicating with farmers on-site to enhance the status of agriculture, the county's main industry, without being bound by conventional frameworks."
