Isu Chemical Completes Lithium Sulfide Demo Facility... 'Expecting Increased Demand for Solid Electrolyte Raw Materials'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Isu Chemical announced on the 14th that it has successfully completed the establishment of a demo plant for lithium sulfide (Li2S), a solid-state battery electrolyte raw material, at its Onsan factory and held a completion ceremony on the 11th.
The completion ceremony was attended by over 120 executives and employees, including Kim Sang-beom, Chairman of Isu Group, Ryu Seung-ho, CEO of Isu Chemical, and Kim Hak-bong, CEO of Isu Corporation.
The lithium sulfide demo plant constructed on the site of Isu Chemical's Onsan factory was designed with an annual production capacity of 20 tons. The company explained that it plans to increase production capacity in response to growing customer demand.
Prior to the completion of the demo plant, Isu Chemical confirmed demand for lithium sulfide from numerous solid electrolyte manufacturers such as Solid Power, EcoPro BM, and Heesung Catalyst. This year, they signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to establish cooperative relationships. With full-scale production, the relationships built with partners are expected to boost sales.
Ryu Seung-ho, CEO of Isu Chemical, stated, "The battery industry is anticipating the commercialization of solid-state batteries around 2027," adding, "Starting with the completion of Isu Chemical's lithium sulfide demo plant, we will strive to advance the commercialization timeline of electric vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries."
