Person with Intellectual Disability Arrested for Setting Fire at Welfare Facility Out of Curiosity
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A person with an intellectual disability who set fire to a welfare institution in Gwangju has been arrested by the police.
The Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced on the 14th that they have booked and are investigating Mr. A (17) on charges of arson of a dwelling.
Mr. A is suspected of setting fire on the 4th floor of a welfare facility for the disabled in Jiya-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, at around 8:57 a.m. on the 13th.
He was investigated to have set fire to a blanket inside a wardrobe out of curiosity about fire.
Although there were no casualties from the fire, a commotion occurred as 65 people, including disabled individuals and staff present at the facility at the time, evacuated.
The fire, which burned the speech therapy room and the wardrobe, was extinguished in 27 minutes.
