Damyang-gun Promotes Campaign to Boost Adoption of Abandoned Dogs
‘Adopting Lost and Abandoned Animals, Your Choice Can Change a Life’
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 13th, Damyang-gun, Jeonnam, announced on the 14th that it conducted a campaign to prevent the loss and abandonment of companion dogs and to promote adoption around the Metasequoia Road area.
Under the theme "Adopt lost and abandoned animals, your choice can change a life," the campaign was held with county officials, honorary animal protection monitors, and members of animal volunteer groups conducting the campaign targeting tourists visiting Damyang on the weekend.
The campaign included on-site adoption of abandoned dogs at the "Damyang-gun Abandoned Animal Adoption Center," sharing the awareness that companion dogs are family, and promoting pet etiquette for the happy coexistence of pets and people.
Additionally, the animal volunteer group held a charity bazaar selling pet supplies. All proceeds from the sales will be used for surgery costs for companion dogs in need of treatment.
Recently, as the number of households raising companion animals has increased in Damyang-gun, the number of abandoned animals has also surged, becoming a serious social problem. In response, the "Damyang-gun Abandoned Animal Adoption Center" was established in June as the first of its kind in Jeonnam, and efforts to actively promote adoption are underway.
