Ruling Party Urges Opposition to Stop Struggle, Calls Anti-Government Protests and Signature Campaigns "Tragedy Politicization"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The People Power Party criticized the anti-government protests held in downtown Seoul on the 12th and the signature campaign conducted by the Democratic Party for the Itaewon disaster national investigation, urging them to stop the street protests.
Senior Spokesperson Yang Geum-hee said in a statement, "Today, just two weeks after the disaster, another large-scale rally demanding 'regime resignation' was held in the city center," adding, "While the Democratic Party insists on a national investigation, it has abandoned parliamentary principles and taken to 'street politics' under the guise of a 'public signature' campaign to shield Lee Jae-myung from risk."
Senior Spokesperson Yang continued, "Turning the disaster into a political struggle under the pretext of a national investigation and mourning only hinders swift investigation and fact-finding," and warned, "If the people's grief is exploited and the politicization and political strife of a national disaster continue, it will only become another disaster for everyone."
The People Power Party claimed that the Democratic Party is attempting to politicize the Itaewon memorial rallies and anti-government protests recently held in downtown Seoul by mobilizing organizations.
