Amtae-myeon, Sinan-gun, Faces Severe Drought, Urges 'Saving Tap Water' Efforts
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Amtae-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is focusing administrative efforts on saving tap water as the water volume of Sugok water source reservoir has fallen below 25% due to the drought that has continued since last fall.
On the 8th, the Amtae-myeon Office held a village chief meeting at the Sugok water source site and urged residents to conserve tap water.
As of November, the accumulated rainfall is 676mm, which is only 48% of the average, and the Korea Meteorological Administration's long-term forecast predicts rainfall to be less than or similar to the average, raising concerns that the drought will persist in the long term.
As a drought countermeasure, Amtae-myeon has been promoting raw water supply from nearby groundwater wells and the wide-area water supply system, and is connecting pipelines from the nearby Sugok Village agricultural reservoir to cope with the drought in the future.
