Sim Deokseop, Gochang County Governor, Visits Young Farmers' Fields... Listens to Their Difficulties

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Shim Deokseop, the mayor of Gochang County, visited the farming sites of young farmers and emphasized support for nurturing young farmers.

According to the county on the 10th, Mayor Shim visited youth-centered farming sites such as cabbage, radish, chili pepper, strawberry, and ginger harvesting sites the day before. He listened to the stories and difficulties of living as young farmers and discussed the development direction and goals of Gochang County's agricultural policies.

The young farmers frankly expressed their hardships regarding the overall agricultural environment, including labor issues, changes in crops due to climate change, and various natural disasters.

The county raised the subsidy rate from the existing 40% to 50% for six county-funded support projects (small and medium-sized agricultural machinery, horticultural special crop production complex support, small-scale vinyl greenhouse support, bumblebee support for greenhouse crop cultivation, chili dryer support, and small and medium-sized cold storage for agricultural products support).

In particular, support for young farmers and successor farmers related to rural labor shortages has been further strengthened.

Mayor Shim Deokseop said, “It is important to nurture young farmers who can actively respond to environmental changes such as regional extinction, climate change, industrial technology utilization, and advanced food technology (Food Tech). We are always thinking about what customized support is essential for young farmers.”

He added, “We will continue to expand support policies so that young farmers can stably engage in agriculture, including the young start-up farmers' smart farm support project, establishing youth-centered base spaces, and preferential support for business succession farmers.”
