Hyundai Wia Begins Construction of Thermal Management Test Building... Full-Scale Launch of Integrated Thermal Management System Project
Utilization of Approximately 1,800 Pyeong Site at Hyundai Wia Uiwang Research Center
Research Building Specialized in Developing Thermal Management Systems for Eco-Friendly Vehicles
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Wia is establishing a thermal management test facility and will officially launch its thermal management system business.
On the 10th, Hyundai Wia announced that it will build a 'thermal management test facility' on the site of Hyundai Wia's Uiwang Research Center located in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province. The thermal management test facility will conduct research on the 'Integrated Thermal Management System (ITMS)' that manages all the heat of eco-friendly vehicles in an integrated manner. Unlike internal combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles lack sufficient available heat sources, making a separate thermal management device essential to effectively control waste heat recovery and utilization.
Hyundai Wia will construct the thermal management test facility on a 6,069㎡ (approximately 1,839 pyeong) site within the Uiwang Research Center, with a single above-ground floor. Completion is scheduled for June next year.
Hyundai Wia decided to build the test facility to respond to the rapidly changing mobility market toward eco-friendly vehicles. Intensive research on integrated thermal management systems for eco-friendly vehicles will be conducted at the test facility. The interior of the test facility is designed to enable performance development and durability testing at the module, system, and vehicle levels.
Based on this test facility, Hyundai Wia plans to further concentrate its capabilities on developing thermal management systems. First, it plans to advance the 'coolant distribution and supply integrated module' exclusively for eco-friendly vehicles, which was developed early last year and is about to enter mass production. Additionally, it will integrate coolant and refrigerant modules to maximize vehicle interior space and improve energy efficiency. Hyundai Wia aims to introduce an integrated thermal management system including interior air conditioning by 2025.
