Jeon Nam Provincial Assembly Member Choi Dong-ik Demands 'Measures to Stabilize the Beekeeping Industry'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Choi Dong-ik, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, proportional representation), demanded the establishment of a system to stabilize the production base of the beekeeping industry during the administrative audit of the Agricultural Technology Institute at the 367th regular session on the 7th.
Assemblyman Choi stated, “Recently, the beekeeping industry has faced a sharp decline in nationwide honey production, dropping from 21,414 tons annually in 2014 to 5,395 tons in 2018 due to abnormal weather, shortage of nectar sources, and outbreaks of pests and diseases,” and pointed out, “The production base of Korea’s beekeeping industry is very vulnerable, so a system that can actively and preemptively respond to climate change must be established.”
