Hampyeong-gun Accelerates Mechanization of Onion Cultivation... Reducing Costs and Labor
Goal to expand mechanized onion cultivation area from 113ha to 150ha by 2025
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do is accelerating the mechanization of onion cultivation to increase farm income.
According to the county on the 7th, mechanized onion planting work will be actively carried out to resolve the rural labor shortage caused by aging and population decline.
The onion planting period from late October to early November overlaps with the rice harvest season, causing labor costs to skyrocket.
Accordingly, the county plans to promote mechanized operations throughout the entire process from onion planting to harvest to reduce labor and production costs.
They have formed a consultative body with local agricultural cooperatives and onion farmers to promote mechanization work, and plan to invest 3.2 billion KRW by 2025 to significantly expand the mechanized area from the current 113 hectares to 150 hectares.
