The three deputy ministers strongly condemned North Korea's unprecedented series of missile provocations in scale and method, and discussed trilateral cooperation measures for future responses.
They pointed out that North Korea's ballistic missile launches violate multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and pose a serious threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the international community as a whole, emphasizing that this only deepens North Korea's isolation and leads to strengthening the ROK-U.S. alliance and ROK-U.S.-Japan security cooperation.
They also agreed to closely coordinate to ensure that firm and unified messages regarding North Korea's provocations are sent at upcoming multilateral summits such as the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the Group of Twenty (G20) meetings.
The EAS will be held from the 10th to the 13th in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, coinciding with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, and the G20 Summit will take place on the 15th and 16th in Bali, Indonesia.
Furthermore, the three deputy ministers evaluated that they have been maintaining close communication on shared concerns such as the North Korean nuclear issue through the ROK-U.S.-Japan deputy foreign ministers' meeting held in Tokyo on the 26th of last month, and agreed to continue closer cooperation at all levels going forward.
At the meeting held in Tokyo, the three deputy ministers agreed to maintain close cooperation amid North Korea's increasing threats of nuclear use, and particularly agreed that an unprecedentedly strong response would be necessary if North Korea conducts a seventh nuclear test.
