[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Following the Itaewon tragedy and its aftermath, President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration has fallen back to the low 30% range. Daily public opinion polls showed a decline in approval ratings from early to late in the week. The drop in approval ratings for both the president and the ruling party was particularly noticeable in the Seoul area.
According to a poll released on the 7th by Realmeter (conducted by Media Tribune from the 31st of last month to the 4th of this month, surveying 2,521 voters nationwide aged 18 and older), President Yoon's positive evaluation of his administration was 34.2%, while the negative evaluation was 62.4%. The positive rating, indicating good performance, decreased by 1.5 percentage points, whereas the negative rating, indicating poor performance, increased by 0.7 percentage points.
The decline in President Yoon's approval rating was particularly evident in the latter half of the week compared to the beginning. According to the daily trend data from this poll, the approval rating was 35.7% on the 1st, then dropped to 34.9% on the 2nd, 32.9% on the 3rd, and 32.5% on the 4th.
Looking at the regions, the public sentiment shift in Seoul following the Itaewon tragedy was significant. In Seoul, the positive evaluation of President Yoon's administration was 39.8% a week ago but fell by 7.3 percentage points to 32.5% this week.

Regarding party support, the Democratic Party of Korea rose by 0.4 percentage points to 46.8%, while the People Power Party dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 37.4%. The Justice Party decreased by 0.9 percentage points to 2.6%. In Seoul, the Democratic Party's support increased by 3.1 percentage points to 44.0%, whereas the People Power Party's support declined by 2.9 percentage points to 37.1%.
