According to the Doosan Yeongang Foundation, Professor Ryu was selected as an awardee for his paper titled “Laparoscopic Sentinel Lymph Node Navigation Surgery for Stomach Preservation in Early Gastric Cancer Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial,” which demonstrated that sentinel lymph node-based stomach-preserving surgery improves the health and nutritional status of early gastric cancer patients compared to gastrectomy. Sentinel lymph nodes refer to the first lymph nodes to which cancer cells spread through the lymphatic vessels.
Professor Choi discovered biomarkers helpful for diagnosing pancreatic cancer through his paper titled “Pancreatic Cancer Diagnostic Model Using Multi-Biomarkers.” Biomarkers are indicators that can detect changes within the body using proteins, DNA, and other substances.
Professor Jeong confirmed through his paper titled “Targeted Axillary Biopsy Using Preoperative Ultrasound-Guided Marking of Axillary Lymph Nodes” that in patients suspected of metastasis during preoperative ultrasound examination for breast cancer surgery, injecting marking agents into the axillary lymph nodes and excising both the marked lymph nodes and sentinel lymph nodes together can improve diagnostic accuracy.
