Now in its 24th year, the ‘World Communication Awards’ is an awards ceremony organized by Total Telecom for outstanding telecommunications companies worldwide, recognizing companies that have achieved excellent performance and innovation not only in network technology but also in branding and marketing every year.
Since KT became the first domestic operator to win the ‘5G Leadership Award’ at the World Communication Awards in 2018, it has succeeded in winning the award for five consecutive years up to this year. Through KT’s service capabilities and technological prowess, South Korea’s status as an ICT powerhouse is widely recognized around the world.
At the World Communication Awards 2022, KT was nominated in six categories: ‘5G Implementation Award,’ ‘B2B Service of the Year,’ ‘Telecom Operator of the Year,’ ‘Beyond Connectivity Award,’ ‘Cyber Security Award,’ and ‘Sustainability Award.’ Among them, KT won in three categories: ▲5G Implementation Award, ▲Telecom Operator of the Year, and ▲B2B Service of the Year.
The ‘5G Implementation Award’ is given to the telecom operator that receives the highest evaluation based on a comprehensive assessment of network configuration and business models for 5G services. KT is already widely known worldwide as a representative 5G telecom operator through the world’s first commercialization of 5G and has continued to win 5G-related categories at the World Communication Awards for five consecutive years.
Since the world’s first commercialization of 5G in 2019, KT launched the nation’s first nationwide 5G SA (Standalone) service in 2021 and has steadily improved 5G coverage and performance based on stable 5G operation know-how. In particular, KT developed its own indoor solution incorporating five patented technologies, securing strong competitiveness in providing indoor 5G services.
Additionally, KT took the lead in building a ‘5G shared network’ to quickly secure 5G coverage in rural areas and improved wireless network quality on buses and subways by establishing Wi-Fi using 5G as backhaul, earning recognition for spearheading 5G dissemination.
The ‘Telecom Operator of the Year’ award is given to the telecom company that has shown the most impressive achievements in a year, selected based on excellence in all areas including technology, marketability, contribution, and diversification.
KT, which won the ‘Telecom Operator of the Year’ award, received high praise for proving to the world the new transformation and potential of KT as a digico (digital platform company), going beyond the limits of a telecom company based on its technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud.
In particular, along with the world’s first commercialization of 5G and the first nationwide SA commercialization, KT is leading the creation of new business models by combining its solid network infrastructure and technological capabilities with artificial intelligence, digital transformation (DX), and cloud technologies.
To accelerate the success of digico, KT is directly creating and expanding the digital ecosystem. KT has established an open collaboration system where anyone, including small and medium partners and startups, can develop 5G services by opening ‘5G Open Lab’ and ‘Digico KT Open Lab,’ and is discovering and nurturing startups. Furthermore, through last month’s ‘KT Partners Day’ event, KT emphasized cooperation with partners for digico success and continues to pursue partnerships with various companies.
KT also earned the honor of winning the ‘B2B Service of the Year’ award with ‘KT AICC (AI Contact Center).’ Following last year’s win for the ‘AI Smart Space’ service, this marks two consecutive years of winning.
KT AICC applies AI technology to contact centers handling customer consultations, maximizing efficiency and productivity of consultation tasks to enhance customer satisfaction. In other words, simple repetitive consultations are replaced by ‘automation solutions’ such as voice bots and chatbots, while consultants use ‘consultation support solutions’ that allow them to check consultation histories through real-time transcripts and automatic summaries, enabling quick and efficient consultations.
Companies that have adopted the KT AICC solution can conduct fast and accurate consultation tasks, allowing remaining human resources to be redirected to sales or other necessary areas, making it an innovative service for companies concerned about rising operational costs.
Going forward, KT plans to launch within this year a CCaaS (Contact Center as a Service) under the brand name A’Cen Cloud, which will allow integrated use of all resources needed to operate contact centers (consultation AP, AI solutions, consultation personnel, etc.) with just an internet connection.
