Yangcheon-gu to Open Mokdong Stadium Main Track Free from 5 to 8 AM Starting November... Result of District Office's Persistent Requests and Seoul City's Cooperative Governance with Autonomous Districts
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that starting from the 1st of this month, the Mokdong Stadium main stadium athletics track is being opened free of charge to residents every day from 5 to 8 a.m. to promote residents' health through the activation of community sports around the Mokdong central axis.
Constructed in 1989, Mokdong Stadium is a professional sports facility operated by Seoul City, equipped with sports facilities such as the main stadium, Mokdong Baseball Stadium, and Mokdong Ice Rink.
The athletics track at the main stadium of Mokdong Stadium is heavily used during early morning hours mainly by the Yangcheon-gu marathon club and residents who wish to exercise in the morning. However, until now, according to the "Ordinance on the Installation and Use of Seoul Metropolitan Sports Facilities," users had to pay a fee of 1,000 won per 2-hour session.
In response, the district actively requested Seoul City, the operating authority, to open the Mokdong Stadium main stadium athletics track free of charge during early morning hours, and has continuously made efforts including multiple visits to the Seoul Sports Facilities Management Office.
This sudden achievement of free access to the paid track during early morning hours is the result of Yangcheon-gu's efforts and Seoul City's cooperative governance aiming to accompany autonomous districts, and it is expected to greatly contribute to the activation of community sports around the Mokdong central axis.
