Yongsan-gu to Operate 24 Hours Until Midnight on the 5th, Extended Hours from 8 AM to 10 PM from the 6th to 12th... Call Center Supporting Medical Expenses for Itaewon Tragedy Victims in Operation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will extend the operation of the joint memorial altar for the victims of the Itaewon disaster, set up at Noksapyeong Station Plaza, until the 12th.
Due to the continuous flow of mourners, it was decided to extend the operation period of the joint memorial altar by one week to allow citizens to express their condolences.
Until midnight on the 5th, it will operate 24 hours a day, and during the extended operation period from the 6th to the 12th, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. During this period, 24 staff members (4 teams of 6 people each) will be stationed daily at the joint memorial altar. Flowers are prepared on site so that any visitor can pay their respects.
However, the psychological support counseling booth, which was separately installed near the joint memorial altar, will cease operation on the 5th. From the 8th to the 25th, the ‘Itaewon Disaster Trauma Psychological Support Cafe’ will be operated for Itaewon merchants, on-site response personnel, and residents experiencing trauma from the accident. The cafe is located near the district office (43, Noksapyeong-daero 32-gil) and can be used through advance reservation on Naver.
The Yongsan-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center provides special psychological counseling for youths experiencing psychological difficulties.
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) is operating a call center to assist the injured related to the Itaewon disaster. This is to facilitate medical expense support for those who died while receiving treatment or the injured.
The injured assistance call center is staffed by five employees working in shifts. The operation period is from the 8th until the situation ends, and the operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. For nights and weekends, contact the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
The medical expense support targets include ▲victims of the Itaewon disaster ▲those injured during on-site rescue activities ▲bereaved families of the deceased (spouses, direct ascendants/descendants, siblings) ▲those who were at the accident site but have no physical injuries and require psychiatric treatment.
Those who were at the accident site refer to individuals who were in the alley next to the Hamilton Hotel and nearby areas between 6 p.m. on October 29 and 6 a.m. on October 30.
The support covers treatment costs for physical and mental illnesses and aftereffects directly related to the accident. Whether it is directly related is determined by medical staff, and it covers insured medical fees including co-payments, uninsured medical fees, and medication costs. However, cosmetic procedures, vaccinations, and incidental expenses are excluded.
Applications must be submitted by the injured or their families with the required documents to the relevant district office department or community service center by the 15th.
Required documents include a medical opinion issued by a hospital or medical institution, medical expense receipts, evidence proving presence at the accident site (such as store payment records), and a social disaster damage report.
