Earlier, during the 242nd session of the Jinju City Council standing committee, the Economic and Welfare Committee had visited the site of the Jinju International Agro-Food Expo to inspect the overall preparation status.
However, following the Itaewon incident, they judged that strengthening safety management measures at the event site was urgent, so they revisited the agro-food expo venue to check for any blind spots in safety management.
The 2022 Jinju International Agro-Food Expo was the first expo held in Gyeongnam after the Itaewon incident. Jinju City scaled down the event by omitting the opening ceremony and only conducting a tape-cutting ceremony as a way to mourn the victims and disperse attendees, but many citizens are visiting, making safety more important than ever.
The Economic and Welfare Committee members inspected the venue and said, “Many citizens are visiting the event, which is being held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19, so safety management at the venue must be more thorough than ever,” and urged officials to “confirm whether rapid response is possible in case of an accident.”
