Vice Minister Park Yoon-gyu Meets Delegation of the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu held a meeting on the 3rd at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry with a delegation from the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO), led by Commissioner Adam Bielan.
The Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO) is responsible for areas such as the European Union's Digital Single Market, consumer protection, and the customs union, overseeing legislation including the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Digital Services Act (DSA), and the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act).
Vice Minister Park introduced the 'New York Initiative' announced by President Yoon Seok-yeol last September and mentioned that South Korea has established a digital strategy to innovate all sectors of the economy and society digitally.
The New York Initiative outlines South Korea's vision for digital innovation and presents a concept of a digital order that global citizens should collectively pursue to realize universal human values such as freedom, human rights, and solidarity.
In response, Commissioner Adam Bielan stated, "We were able to confirm Korea's digital vision and strong commitment, and I hope that today's meeting will facilitate diverse discussions on policies and market conditions being promoted by both countries to establish a global digital market order."
The delegation from the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee introduced trends and details of digital-related legislation such as the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), Digital Services Act (DSA), and Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), inquired about Korea's digital environment and various experiences, and exchanged opinions on digital issues.
