[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it conducted overnight recovery work at the site of the Woongcheon earth retaining wall collapse accident and blocked seawater inflow and additional collapse risks.
According to the city, soil equivalent to 60 ready-mixed concrete trucks and 100 trips of 25-ton dump trucks was mixed and poured overnight.
The backfilling of the collapse site has been completed, and soil will continue to be supplied to stabilize the ground at the construction site.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong and Vice Mayor Park Hyun-sik urgently rushed to the site after the accident to direct resident evacuation and damage recovery efforts.
The city deployed more than 70 employees from 11 departments, mainly related departments, for overnight emergency recovery, and urgently evacuated about 100 users from four nearby commercial buildings. In addition, cooperation with related agencies such as the police station and fire station was carried out to control nearby roads and the area around the accident site.
It is known that about 200 personnel, including Yeosu City, Yeosu Police Station, and Yeosu Fire Station, were urgently dispatched to the accident site.
Also, as a result of an emergency inspection by the city, no abnormalities were found in the nearby water supply pipelines and city gas pipes.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong stated, “Through overnight recovery work, seawater inflow and additional collapse risks have been blocked. Currently, soil is continuously being supplied to stabilize the ground at the construction site, and we will thoroughly check to ensure residents do not feel anxious.” He added, “After emergency recovery, we plan to conduct safety inspections and detailed structural design reviews of nearby buildings and facilities.”
