Busan City Focuses on Promoting Expo 2030 Busan by Inviting Central American Deputy Foreign Minister
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] From the 3rd to the 4th, Busan City invited deputy ministers of foreign affairs from seven Central American countries attending the ‘2022 Korea-Central America Roundtable’ to Busan to conduct negotiation and promotional activities for the bid to host the 2030 Busan World Expo.
The seven Central American countries are the Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize.
The Korea-Central America Roundtable is the second event this year since it was first held last November under Korea’s leadership. It was held on the 2nd in Seoul, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With deputy ministers of foreign affairs from Central America attending, the event proceeded in three sessions: ▲Current status and evaluation of Korea-Central America cooperation ▲Exploration of promising fields and cooperation plans for Korea-Central America cooperation ▲Regional and international cooperation.
Taking this opportunity, Busan City invited the visiting Central American deputy ministers of foreign affairs to Busan and will hold meetings and bilateral talks with Mayor Park Hyung-joon for two days starting from this day to negotiate and promote the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo and expand the Latin American network, as well as inspect the planned site for the 2030 Busan World Expo.
The meeting with Mayor Park Hyung-joon will be held at 7 p.m. on the 3rd at the Westin Chosun Hotel, attended by high-ranking officials including Deputy Minister Rivera of the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and deputy ministers and directors from the seven Central American countries.
At this meeting, Mayor Park Hyung-joon plans to actively promote Busan City and the Republic of Korea government’s determination to host the 2030 Busan World Expo, the promotional activities conducted so far, and Busan’s capabilities as a host city for the World Expo.
On the 4th, a schedule is set for an inspection of Bukhang to showcase ‘Busan’ prepared as a candidate city for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon of Busan said, “We welcome the high-ranking officials including deputy ministers of foreign affairs from the seven Central American countries visiting Busan,” and added, “Taking this opportunity, we will actively promote the strengths of Busan as a candidate city for the 2030 Busan World Expo and let everyone know that the entire Republic of Korea is focused on winning the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.”
Busan City has maintained ongoing city exchanges after signing sister and friendship cooperation agreements with four cities in Latin American countries: Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Valpara?so in Chile, Panama City in Panama, and Tijuana in Mexico.

In July, Busan co-hosted the ‘Korea-Latin America Future Cooperation Forum’ with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, promoting efforts to host the World Expo to ministers and deputy ministers from 10 Latin American countries attending, focusing on targeting Latin American countries for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.
