President Yoon Urges Aso for "Revitalization of Private Exchanges" and Hasse for "Firm Response to North Korean Provocations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 2nd, President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Taro Aso, Deputy President of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (former Prime Minister of Japan), and urged him to "contribute to revitalizing private exchanges so that the development of bilateral relations can be promoted."
President Yoon met with Deputy President Aso, who visited Korea as the chairman of the Korea-Japan Cooperation Committee, and praised the role of the Korea-Japan Cooperation Committee, which has been active for a long time since the normalization of diplomatic relations, according to a written briefing by Lee Jae-myung, deputy spokesperson of the presidential office.
The Korea-Japan Cooperation Committee was established in 1969 based on the recognition of the need for a private-sector dialogue channel after the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and is composed of senior leaders from various fields.
Deputy President Aso said, "Dialogue and cooperation between the two countries must continue," and added, "I will continue to work for the prompt restoration and development of bilateral relations."
President Yoon also met with Richard Haas, president of the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations. According to Deputy Spokesperson Lee, President Yoon and President Haas shared deep concerns about North Korea's ballistic missile provocations carried out this morning and agreed on the need for the international community to respond firmly to North Korea's repeated provocations.
President Haas highly praised the efforts by South Korea and the U.S. to effectively and significantly strengthen extended deterrence in response to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, emphasizing that he will actively support these efforts.
