On this day, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Park Jong-seung, Director of the Agency for Defense Development, Ryu Jon-ha, Director of the Marine Technology Research Institute, Oh Woo-seop, Director of the Aviation Technology Research Institute, and Ko Deok-gon, Head of Policy Planning Department, attended. Discussions were held on defense industry cooperation measures between Changwon City and the Agency for Defense Development.
The Agency for Defense Development is an affiliated institution of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration established to contribute to strengthening defense capabilities and achieving self-reliant defense by conducting technical surveys, research, development, and testing of weapons and defense science technologies necessary for national defense.
The city has been focusing on securing national funds for projects such as the ‘Defense and Nuclear Industry Specialized National Industrial Complex 2.0’ and the ‘Next-Generation Advanced Composite Beam Irradiation Facility Construction’ to attract advanced defense science technology and create an industrial cluster.
In particular, Changwon City and the Agency for Defense Development are constructing an Advanced Naval Research Center in the Jinhae Advanced Industrial Research Complex (former site of the Army University). The Advanced Naval Research Center, which broke ground in March, is a project where Changwon City provides a site of 23,273㎡ and the Agency for Defense Development secures 85.825 billion KRW in national funds to build advanced research facilities in phases by 2027.
