Gwangju Buk-gu Opens Second 'Smart Library' in Advanced Industrial Complex
Unmanned Automated Machines for Book Borrowing and Returning... 365 Days Year-Round Service Provided
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 1st, Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced that it will open a smart library in the Advanced Industrial Complex and begin full-scale operation.
The smart library is a contactless library using unmanned automated devices, equipped with hundreds of books inside the device, allowing immediate borrowing and returning on-site, and providing services 365 days a year.
The smart library opening this time is the second after Gwangju Station, selected for the 2022 U-Library Service Construction Support Project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with a total project cost of 63 million KRW, established on the first floor of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gwangju Regional Headquarters.
This aims to encourage reading activities among industrial complex workers and spread a corporate culture of reading, and the smart library was placed at the Gwangju Regional Headquarters, which has high accessibility within the industrial complex and many users.
Anyone can use it by holding a Buk-gu public library membership card or by issuing a membership card contactlessly through the public library app ‘Libropia’, and books can be borrowed up to 3 per person for a maximum of 2 weeks.
Director Moon said, “We established the smart library for about 18,000 workers in the Advanced Industrial Complex who find it difficult to use the library on weekdays,” and added, “We will continue to build lifestyle-oriented smart libraries to provide a convenient reading environment for residents.”
Meanwhile, last year, Buk-gu signed a business agreement with the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Gwangju Regional Headquarters and decided to cooperate in various ways to support the operation of the smart library.
