View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Commissioner of the National Police Agency Yoon Hee-geun, and Acting Commissioner of the Fire Agency Nam Hwa-young appeared at the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee plenary session on the 1st to report on current issues related to the Itaewon disaster.
When Lee Chae-ik, chairman of the National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee, pointed out, "I cannot help but say a word about the remarks made by the Minister of the Interior and Safety the day after the accident," Minister Lee said, "As the minister in charge of public safety, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to the people."
Since the current issue report emphasized the urgent need for accident recovery and victim support, the meeting decided to receive only major issue reports from government attendees such as Minister Lee without separate questions. In protest, Yong Hye-in, a member of the Basic Income Party, left the meeting room.
