[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] North Korea fiercely criticized Elizabeth Salmon, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in North Korea, who pointed out the North Korean government's legal responsibility for serious human rights violations within the country, calling her a "political servant of the United States."
On the 1st, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the name of Kim In-guk, a researcher at the Joseon Human Rights Research Association, directly attacked, stating, "The 'Special Rapporteur' on the human rights situation in Joseon made outrageous remarks severely insulting our country at the 3rd Committee meeting of the 77th UN General Assembly."
Regarding the report submitted by Rapporteur Salmon, they disparaged it as "based on false and slanderous materials provided by anti-humanitarian criminal forces who deny the very existence of our country and tried to harm the life safety of our people with malicious viruses."
Earlier, on the 27th of last month, Rapporteur Salmon emphasized at the 3rd Committee meeting of the 77th UN General Assembly held at the UN Headquarters in New York that North Korea must bear legal responsibility for serious human rights violations. On the 13th of last month, she submitted the 'Report on the Human Rights Situation in North Korea' to the UN General Assembly, pointing out that "North Korean children are suffering more from malnutrition and hunger than before the COVID-19 pandemic."
The North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued in their statement, "The actions of the 'Special Rapporteur,' who disturbs the sacred UN stage with fabricated slanderous materials concocted by the United States and the West with impure political motives, are condemned by all as the height of abnormality," and "The Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Joseon is merely a political tool of foolish people trying to tarnish our country's image and overthrow the socialist system, and from the moment he accepted the position of Special Rapporteur, he became a political servant of the United States."
