Busan City announced on the 1st that on October 31, it held a construction committee meeting and conditionally approved the plan by the private developer TI Busan PFV to build general lodging facilities consisting of two buildings with 484 rooms, ranging from three basement floors to 42 floors above ground, on the former Miworld site.
The key issues in this construction review were whether the facility would be a ‘residential-type lodging facility’ and the ‘public interest’ for local residents.
The construction committee attached conditions requiring the revision of the blueprints to prevent individual heating or cooking facilities typical of residential-type lodging, and to establish a plan to strengthen public interest, followed by a re-examination by the construction committee.
The private developer initially promoted the construction of residential-type lodging facilities here, but nearby residents consistently opposed it, fearing it could degrade into residential housing.
Considering that the Busan City Construction Committee usually takes about a week to announce results after review, the conditional approval on the day of the review suggests that the fate of ‘Miworld’ will be decided soon.
