Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, visited the joint memorial altar installed at the Gyeongnam Provincial Government Office, offered flowers, and expressed his condolences.

Mayor Hong said, “As a national mourning period has been declared due to the Itaewon accident, it is time for everyone to unite their efforts for swift resolution of the situation and prevention of recurrence,” adding, “I hope all employees will do their best with a work attitude that prioritizes citizen safety, renewing their vigilance against various safety accidents that may occur at any time amid the mourning atmosphere.”
Following this, Mayor Hong visited the joint memorial altar established at the Gyeongnam Provincial Office with senior officials, offered flowers, and expressed condolences.
Since the national mourning period has been declared, the city will conduct intensive inspections on all ongoing or scheduled events and will consider reducing or postponing them based on urgency.
The city will cancel the Changwon Tintin Festival, Mussel Festival, and the Romantic Concert with Citizens. The 1st Freedom Imagination National Art Contest for the Kim Juseok Art Award and the Noni-neun Masan Ogwangdae performance with citizens will be held on a reduced scale.
