Yeonggwang-gun Conducts Crisis Management Training for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Disease Response
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (County Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 31st that it recently conducted a crisis management drill to respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases at The Star Wedding Hall.
This drill was conducted for the first time in three years to prepare for the biological risks of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and to improve infectious disease response capabilities. About 140 people participated from Jeollanam-do, 22 cities and counties, quarantine stations, the Health and Environment Research Institute, fire stations, police stations, medical institutions, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Plant.
Amid the resurgence of COVID-19, the drill was based on a scenario of the local inflow of MERS, strengthening response capabilities such as on-site dispatch, epidemiological investigation, isolation of suspected patients, prevention of further spread and minimizing damage in case of confirmed cases. The drill also included practical training on wearing and removing personal protective equipment to prevent infection among response personnel.
A county official said, "The risk of domestic and international outbreaks due to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as MERS is rapidly increasing. We will strive to create a safe county from infectious diseases by enhancing the cooperation and response capabilities of infectious disease officers, related agencies, and relevant department staff in the event of the introduction of new infectious diseases in the region."
