Sacheon-si Accelerates Preparations for Successful Establishment of Hometown Love Donation Program
Formation of November Gift Selection Committee, December Ordinance Promulgation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, is accelerating preparations such as enacting ordinances and selecting return gifts to ensure the successful establishment of the nationwide ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ starting from January next year.
The ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ is a program where donors receive tax credit benefits and return gifts when they donate a certain amount to local governments other than their current residence.
Donors can contribute up to 5 million KRW annually, with full tax credit for donations up to 100,000 KRW, and a 16.5% tax credit for amounts exceeding 100,000 KRW.
Additionally, donors can receive return gifts such as local specialties from the respective local government within 30% of the donation amount.
The donated funds are pooled into the Hometown Love Fund and used as resources for welfare projects aimed at protecting socially vulnerable groups and revitalizing local communities.
The city is proceeding with the ordinance enactment process to smoothly implement the ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ starting January 1, 2023.
In September, the ordinance related to the Hometown Love Donation System was announced for legislative notice. It is planned to be submitted to the city council’s regular session in December.
In particular, the process of selecting return gifts will begin in November. A return gift selection committee will be formed to carry out the selection of return gifts and suppliers.
Furthermore, to promote the activation of the Hometown Love Donation System, the city plans to conduct promotional activities targeting expatriates through the city website, YouTube, and social network services (SNS).
